For years I wanted to go into the desert. So now I am in Atâr, the door to the desert. I’ll spend some days here to experience the Sahara.

An evening with hot wind and sand in the air. I realized that when the temperature is above 36 degrees, the “cool” breeze when riding the bike is a “hot” breeze that heats you up rather than cools you down. Having to move and a hot day is a tricky combination

It’s vacation time for the people of Mauritania – the time for harvesting dates. They come out into the desert to visit family or spend time at an oasis and eat fresh dates. Atâr offers a pétanque tournament during that time – very serious business!
